Orlando

Orlando was most famous for the cattle industry prior to the 1900’s.  It was originally named after an explorer that came from Georgia but there are several conflicting tales to tell the history of Orlando.  Prior to the explosion of commerce, Orlando was founded on the grounds of Fort Gatlin.  Later in 1857, the area was officially named Orlando.

The evolution of the migration to Orlando was the creation of the first toboggan slide that was built in 1895 which spilled into the Wekiva Springs.  This introduced Orlando as a vacation destination but it wasn’t until November 11, 1965 when Walt Disney announced the creation of Walt Disney World that Orlando exploded as one of the most popular tourist locations.  By 2002, Disney World had surpassed the 10 million visitors mark proving that Orlando was a family oriented vacation destination.

The annual population in Orlando stands at approximately 220,000+ with the median age being 33.7 years old.  The majority of the labor force is in the Services sector with a huge difference but second is the governmental sector.  The average home price is $136,000 allowing Orlando to be one of the most affordable housing sectors in the state.

The city has morphed from it’s past and is surrounded by theme parks.  If you don’t want to go to Disney , just down the street is Universal Studios.  There is also Church Street Station in downtown Orlando that has many attractions including but not limited to restaurants, shopping malls and clubs.  One thing that can be said about Orlando, is that there is definitely something for everyone!
